Gearing isn’t a problem. The waste is coming from dense traffic. Burning fuel at a higher rate of speed is better than burning less fuel in stop and go traffic.

Is the Hybrid and Manual two different cars?  Can you get a Hybrid with a Manual?  If so, then is there an engine start/stop feature which gets disabled?
