I would suspect that you are right as you would probably get all kinds of issues with uneven gasmixes as the gas would condense on the walls of the inlet and then get pulled into the chamber on the next stroke causing some lean cycles and some rich... 

the SAAB has the same Hella Rallye lights as the Subaru though i think the Subaru has the Hella Rallye 3003 compact which are of a smaller diameter as the standard. As for the KC lights i have no idea as they where never sold here in Sweden as far as i know.

I may be wrong but wouldn’t changing from 4 carbs per engine to 2 carbs per engine mean the fueling would get worse? I do know that usually for 4 cyl engines of this vintage the carbs are jetted differently on the center cylinders to keep them cooler so logically if you “only” use 2 carbs you would have to fatten up

No lowering and increase wheel size is only the correct answer for people who likes sporty driving. For people like me who prefers to have a nice ride more sidewall and suspension is the correct answer.
