Based on what’s in the movie, I think it’s probably because the plot, setting, and setpieces translate well to the screen. (There’s also an old story that Kubrick wanted to adapt a contemporary novel, and The Shining was the only one in his office that grabbed his attention.) The two versions of the story complement

Nothing you said here is objectively wrong...but that doesn’t make The Shining a bad movie. It’s an incredible movie, but it was a horrible adaptation of the book. Kubrick took the barebones plot - Dad, Mom, and Son with psychic superpowers are stuck in a haunted hotel alone for the winter - and made a story that was

And I’ll never have that math problem again.

He just listened to Macarthur Park.

I’ll send her what I send all celebrities on Instagram: crude drawings done in crayon of me having sex with Mitch Pileggi.

No.

In Poltergeist, directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Steven Spielberg (and, somehow, rated PG)

Preach. Please get ANYTHING Warren related off of lists like this. If the Warrens were involved, rest assured it’s not real. These people are despicable grifters, who made a career at the expense of innocent people dealing with unspeakable grief.

I’ll go to bat for H20. It’s not perfect, but it does what it sets out to do - and I feel like does it substantially more satisfyingly than this trilogy - which have half the catharsis and three times the collected runtime.

I still say we can do a third* Fraser Mummy movie.

Why does everyone keep saying she was in Gaslight? I don't remember that.

Eternals featured Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos was seen in a gay relationship with a child”

Damn. This is either missing a word (“player” after featured), or containing a few too many words (“was seen” after Phastos) and either way, suggests that Phastos was in a romantic relationship with his son. Recommendation:

Please rewrite this.

I’d rather see an in-depth expose of the police who captured one of his victims, fleeing for their life, and delivered him back to Dahmer. I want to see what good lives they lived after that, if they have retired, if they have barbecues and go out and have fun. Dahmer was a monster and acted as monsters do.

I assume that’s just because they know it will annoy Ohio State fans, who are generally insufferable.
