I think some people are missing the distinction here. To accuse Gaiman of stealing is similar to accusing Moore of ripping off characters for League of Extraoridinary Gentlemen. If you populate a new world and story with familiar characters or themes you're not stealing.

I feel bad saying this, but I could NOT get into this book... which is odd seeing that I love Steampunk. I just found the characters so flat and semi-unlikable. Nothing in it grabbed me. That said, I only get about 100 pages in. (My limit for non-grabbitude)
