This article is about how his mum loves him.
Vitriol may well come from the comments, naturally. I re-read the article, however, and I could find none. It simply notes the facts and the key one is that his mum “harbors no ill will toward her son” which seems not much like vitriol.
Rick is a genius who is smart enough to be aware of his own hang-ups but never quite smart of enough to change them; and his inability to accept this, to work on himself in any way at all, means that he spends most of his time coming up with increasingly elaborate ways to distract from his essential isolation.
Fuck’s sake! Why can’t comments be edited without going all over the place! (Or is it just me?)
This Time is a fairly specific allusion to BBC’s The One Show which even Mel Brooks described as “crazy” and “nuts” for the way it sidles from frivolous nonsense to pointed emotional exploitation of its viewers. I think it’s utter dogshit but at least spoofing it has given rise to moments of hilarity such as the…
Is it really possible to one-up someone/thing that no longer exists? Certainly seems a bit cheap, since you already have (your existence) over them/it already.

Pretty much any military has committed horrible war crimes and simply swept them under the rug
Seems like a bit of a racist and stupid comment. Not least “Japanese war crimes were always noted”. By whom, when and as opposed to American and/or British war crimes (which are many)?
“What’s right with the Green Mile?” is another pertinent question .
Love the comic series, bought every issue and while it’s perfect for episodic TV, I probably will avoid this. I’m now at the point where if I love a comic, the last thing I want to see is some bastardised version of it. But I’m glad it gives the creators cash, kudos and more fans.
