Yes it’s currently not the 19th century, but that’s not what the citation means. The 19t century is when it was first recorded, not an indication of obsolescence (which would be denoted by the word “obsolete” or “archaic”).

At the risk of missing an inside joke... “damnit” is correct, albeit that it’s two words squashed together. I’d write it as “damn it” myself, but either is accepted. “Dammit” is a misspelling that has become acceptable through the frequency of usage rendering it standard (which happens a lot).
