Exactly this. Sometimes its mind-boggling how US-centric these comment threads are (and how out of whack the perceptions in this country are). It’s a broken mess where everything is grinding to a standstill based on a crazy obsession on limitless individual freedom. It’s reaching a point where we’re no longer a

Not to poke at you personally, but I believe you have a Landcruiser and a GX470 in the household? Wouldn’t it still be totally possible for one of the vehicles to be a Prime and the other have the tow capacity?

Yup hybrid and PHEV everything. I know states are setting lofty electrification targets which will likely fail because of bottlenecks in supply and infrastructure. Hell, it would be a much better and meaningful stepping stone to have requirements that say 80% of a company’s fleet be hybrid by 2025 and then another

I’m with you in general, but a couple of points. Agreed that most electricity is generated through fossil fuels - but it is still much cleaner than an ICE engine and tail pipe emissions. Also it is easier to transition to different energy models en masse once they start ramping up than converting individual cars.

Agreed. On something like a car, which in reality there will be essentially unlimited supply of, I’m fine with this.

Yup this was pretty common when I lived in the SF Bay Area as well - Caltrain would get delayed pretty often due to people deciding to end their lives by jumping in front of a train. Horrible stuff.

I think you’re taking what was a philosophical (and valid) point and viewing it through the lens of our current world which is already very car-focused.

Shows the buyer truly appreciates what the car respresents.

So...it’s a Polestar 2 with an ICE engine and a Mach-stache?

Wow, that 940 looks spectacular. In my old hood too, would be way too tempted if I still lived in SF!

Jalopnik: “Here are 28 interesting things...”

Yup...my initial reaction was that the comment sounded very evangelical “end of times”-ish. It’s almost as if some people are excited for everything to burn to the ground because apparently that’s what it takes for their imaginary friend to come save us all.

Wow that’s a hell of a lot to go through because of one shitty experience. I have lived in Oregon for almost a decade, travelled here multiple times before - never have I had a tweaker attendant, nor one who couldn’t generally get the job done (let alone break my car). I’d say that’s the general experience of most of

Also you can take the cap off to haul furntiture, washer/dryer, etc. Can’t do that with a wagon/CUV with a fixed roof.

They should just badge it the  “0.8x Accord”

As a pure BEV I agree...I had a Spark EV with ~75 miles range and while that was fine for commuting duty very hard to sell that as a sole vehicle for anyone without access to an ICE vehicle as well. With my current Bolt I have 260 miles range with same (well less, thanks COVID) commute and feel like I am not using

No, but those things aren’t guaranteed by the Constitution though.

But don’t ask me to accept the idea that Jalopnik is centrist by any realistic definition of the term.

Loved this piece, extremely thought provoking and a super interesting topic that is very much related to cars. Very nicely done, Erin. The OP can go cry in a corner.

Being on my 2nd BEV I fully agree with this. The BEV works for my use case with a short commute and 2 other cars in the household for longer trips. But even those cars I would not switch to a BEV currently - and I think this is where many people are at (although realistically many 2+ vehicle households COULD have at
