Strangely enough, I find I’m more likely to buy a game at full price than on sale. If I know I want something, I’ll just get it (Elden Ring, for example), but if I’m not sure and decide to wait for a sale, then whenever I see it discounted I say to myself, but what if it’s even cheaper next time it goes on sale. Until

To your point about feeling left out, there’s also the calculation of playing something at launch for social inclusion vs playing something once all the bugs have been fixed. It can sometimes feel good to abuse OP things at launch before they get nerfed, but that’s usually outweighed by bugs.

So, weird random question - how many people play games at launch these days as opposed to say five or ten years ago? I feel like it’s lower, but this could be anecdotal.

THANK YOU for adding “World State” to my vocabulary when trying to describe Destiny (1, 2, +), as the story is being told in real time. If you want to get caught up, YouTube & Ishtar Collective are invaluable resources.

I’ll give you Zavala has been more central to the narratives than Ikora*... but I don’t think that he’s really been much more developed. He’s still the same ‘stoic moral center’ that he’s always been, and - crucially - hasn’t really formed relationships to the same extent the others have. Now, maybe that’s

I just wonder when they’ll hit their limit, since people have been ragging about Blizzard’s busted lore loudly since BFA.

While I did like the obfuscated way that Destiny would tell its story before (first-hand accounts taken from lore cards attached to in-game items that combined told the whole story) I really like how now they’re focusing more on character interactions and presenting major events in the first-person (Irony!)

The best way to think of it is that even when D1 launched, there was a ton of “established” background for the Vanguard, the collapse, the hive, etc. that EXISTED and was present, but was just that, background.

I think there’s a way Bungie could do that, but again, they’d need to commit much further than they have currently, especially where Zavala and Ikora are concerned

DCV can only be felt to newcomers or returning players. For those that kept playing since beginning, nobody really cares about DCV because new content will always keep them busy. There’s really no reason to play older content.

Well I meant the Vanguard as in Zavala, Ikora, Osiris, Saint, Crow, etc. The whole of the Vanguard. Which narratively is in the middle of a character arc that started (extremely extremely slowly mind you) with the Red War.

I’m still not entirely convinced they’re building toward something that can really be called a ‘narrative’ in the traditional sense, though - things will happen, our Guardian will be indirectly involved, but won’t exhibit any sort of character growth or arc, which makes it feel less like a ‘story’ and more like

I’ve been having a blast using my glaive so far, and I love going all YOLO and start beating down a boss with it. Yeah, I know it’s a dumb idea, but I just love the idea of wailing on a boss with it - especially when they try to stomp me away.

Its also that the core narrative hasn’t really moved forward till very recently. Its gone wide building up all these side things but never really answering or resolving anything.  Its been going from adding one new piece to the board and resolving nothing to adding the next piece.  And all of those pieces idling in

Honestly...if you’re interested in playing Destiny 2—just play Destiny 2. As someone who jumped back in when Forsaken hit, I have a fairly casual connection to the lore, and I know enough to know who the good guys are (me) and who the bad guys I need to shoot are (everyone else) and that’s kind of it. What keeps me

Is there a good way to start with Destiny? With how previous campaigns are vaulted, is there a good way to fully experience the story?

Yeah it can be tough sometimes. Due to my long history of gaming at a desk, I don’t really associate that with my work. But definitely after sitting at my desk all day for work, doing it more to game has a significantly reduced appeal. This has only gotten worse now that I mostly work from home and use the same desk

Honestly if you’re already at or close to 1520 with your character(s), then there’s no real reason to do Legend except for the fun of the challenge/bragging rights. And also I guess for the free class exotic at the end, but you can just go and grind for those pieces in Legendary Lost Sectors in much less time.

Genuinely curious: Is this style of play common for gamers? I know I keep playing one game until I’m done with it, then move on to the next.

I get where you’re coming from (the PlayStation message bothers the hell out of me too because shouldn’t they just make the thing resilient to shutdowns like Microsoft has?)
