Not a fan of using phrases like “ticking-clock kind of problem” when referring to the IMS as it implies the car WILL have the problem. But as you noted, it’s only between one and three percent. So, most cars won’t have the problem.

Mine is up for sale. ;)

What makes you say that? Most cars in California are in better shape than the rest of the country. For example, when I bought my 1975 Ferrari, I had it repainted back to its original color. The car sat for 25 years, yet when we stripped it down to the bare metal, not one speck of rust was found. We’re talking a ‘70s

I pursued this car for a short time, decided to keep my distance after a few interactions with the seller. He wants people to call him rather than answer questions in email (probably because there won’t be a “paper trail” so to speak). The seller has advertised this same car on different sites as a 1975 and a 1976

Thank you! The color is called Orient Red Metallic, and I’ve actually seen this color with a tan interior and a gray interior… they were both very unflattering. I’ve also found this car looks great in Zenith Blue. I met a guy at a Cars and Coffee with one that color. Our cars looked stunning together. I’ve tried to

Color is BIG FACTOR on the 996. I found mine in a real color and I’ll never get rid of it. It’s an absolutely amazing car. Find one with a great exterior color, and black interior. A black interior is ESSENTIAL, otherwise, it’s rather hideous.

My interior is black, I also had a 986 Boxster for eight years prior to my 996, and it too had a black interior. I have no problems with the interior at all, I think it’s just fine, but I will say that sometimes when it’s in a light gray color, or even tan, it looks really dated. But, that’s not the design, it’s the

I don’t see the similarities! But, the Ford Ranger is a good small truck, and seems to have a nice, simple interior. ;)

I rather like the 996.1 compared to the 996.2. The headlamps on the later models just look like Porsche caved-in to the backlash and tried to put a band-aid on it. And I’ll never understand why people think the interior is so awful? It’s clean, uncluttered, and easy to navigate. I quite like mine.

Interesting! I hadn’t heard of that, probably because everyone just whines about the IMS all the time. I guess it really depends on how much you love the car. For example, Ferraris often have engine failures that cost more than the car is worth to repair, but people still get them repaired (of course, I’m talking

Did you just make this up, or did you read it on a hate site? I’ve been researching these cars for a very long time and haven’t heard of those so-called failures.

Of course it’s worth that! If you haven’t noticed, 996 prices are on the rise. This is actually on the lower end of the price scale for a well sorted 996 with the IMS fix. I picked up my 996 in February. I bought the car sight-unseen (other than photos on the internet) and it’s an absolutely stunning vehicle. IMS

What? You lost me on this. I mean, really, this finishes Jalopnik for me. Jalopnik will no longer receive my clicks. I come here to read about cars, not who’s playing in the subway terminals in New York.

We’re neighbors! I just wondered because from my experience, it’s pretty hard to find a rusty car here. :)

Have you ever been California?

I don't think the tax thing would ever be a real, viable consideration. Using your example, if you have a car that's worth $15,000 to $16,000, you may be able to get that selling it on your own. However, trading it in, the dealer will offer you somewhere between $7,000 and $9,000. There's no tax advantage there. You

I guess I have a unique relationship with my wife than most other people have with theirs. My discussion went something like this:

So… am I wrong that you can enter a license plate number on publicdata.com (if you have an account) and get the owner name, birth date, gender, address, city, state, zip, next renewal date, and all previous owner information? I'm pretty sure you can.

I pretty much drive nothing but classic cars. Sadly, not the high dollar, prestigious, super-amazing cool kids classics like a Dino 246GT or an Aston Martin DB5. But I have had a couple of Datsun Z cars, a Fiat 128, Volvo 122, Mercedes 280CE and a few slightly more modern classics like an Audi 4000S, Mazda RX-7, VW

How can one be an…
