How much depreciation are you going to eat immediately after driving off the lot in your new ZR1? Apples and oranges really. This car will almost certainly continue to climb in value, or at least maintain its value. It’ll be 25+ years before the ‘vette can say the same, and that’s not a given that it ever will.

If you can afford the maintenance, you can afford to buy a new one...

For a brief shining moment it was 100% CP... Then the blind people started voting.

Correction: the build cost YOU $33k. No one else is paying for that nonsense. CP

This gen, the GTI at least, gets a lot of flak for being “just a trim level” or “bloated”, but I really enjoyed my mk4 GTI VR6. It was nice to look at, very well rounded, and cruised at 120+ with ease. Such a solid car, and I really didn’t have any serious issues with it outside ofwear item replacement.

No such thing as a cheap Mercedes... CP

I think you're required to carry collusion insurance on a vehicle like this.

This is the kind of car that will teach you self-sufficiency, and a new language. We’ve been far too coddled with all of these easy to find, ready-made parts everywhere. And repair manuals? In English? Lazy.

“Needs to be done in”

Just say no to European cars. He wants to drive the thing AND have it last for his son to enjoy. I could see the Skyline being an option, but the NEW is just too ugly. S2000 all the way. Just don't get a MY'00 with the stiffer rear suspension and put bigger wheels on it...

Top gear 50-70, I believe. The top gear in the Vette is super long to get them that 30mpg highway number.

V6 Hyundai Tiburon with the 6 speed. Oddly enough, I raced my friends in their turbo 4 cylinders like this and destroyed them. That car had a super close ratio gearbox that made the most of not that much HP (170ish). Was able to run sub 15 second 1/4s with only catback and intake mods.
