This sounds like good advice if your hobby is hunting for and purchasing great deals on cars. It’s probably not good advice for someone with a limited budget and needs something reasonably reliable in the soon to right now market.
I’ve always just sealed the original lid and stored in the basement upside down. The paint creates an additional seal on the lid so no air can come in. Never had rust and have opened cans years later and it’s perfectly fine.
