I chose to see this theatrically over Jurassic Park.

I cannot wait to see this. I love Val Kilmer whole-heartedly.

Now playing

He may not be the definitive Batman, but he will always be Mark Twain to me!

So long as the entire running time is dedicated to him doing lines from Spartan, I’ll be ok with it.

Repugnant seems about right. Living and growing up in Mexico, a deeply unequal and racist country, a revolution like the one seen here always seems inevitable. Mexico has experienced almost a decade and a half of increasing militarization. The supposed future of Mexico here seems scary, but the surprising thing is,

Harrow the Ninth was so good that it immediate made me want to reread Gideon the Ninth to see how much was foreshadowed in the first book. And I can't wait for the third book in the trilogy to release...

I haven’t seen Twixt (or even Tetro). Although unlike One from the Heart, which I’d heard enough good stuff about to check out on the big screen some years ago, Twixt hasn’t generated many strong defenses I’ve seen. So your recommendation intrigues me!

ARCHER: God, who would want to put a bomb on that?

CAPTAIN LAMMERS: Well, that’s what we’re hoping ISIS can find out.”

God, so many lines from the early seasons read differently now.

As someone who has more or less enjoyed every season of Archer, I still think the show peaked with Skytanic.

yes, it was very good.

I just looked this up and added it to my list. Australian horror movies kick ass.

Same! I’m gonna go out on a limb and say the final shot is one of the most powerful, heartrending images ever captured on film. Like, that’s Art, and they should be showing it to the cool kids in film school (and the rest of the movie is very good, too). I’d certainly put it up against anything nominated last weekend

Finally, FINALLY, someone has recommended watching a Marvel movie.

Reviled by who? I love this movie; everyone was great in it but I would single out Viola Davis. And that Cliff Martinez score, gorgeous. Sure, it was doesn’t have a 12-minute wordless shot of a guy in a taxi or whatever, so I guess it’s not ART.

Two gangs, the Yang and Bukseong, have gathered for a summit to stem the hemorrhaging of goons from both.”

I dare suggest that if you find the wilfully overwrought melodrama and heightened emotion a bit cloying, South Korean cinema may not be for you.

A year ago me would be shocked to think the phrase South Korean revenge movie would fill me with joy, but here we are. I have spend the Covid year developing a deep love of Asian dramas and discovering that revenge dramas are perfect for a girl who just wants to be able to root for villains without having them lose

Honestly, I feel like most blockbusters in general have completely lost their sense of metaphor. All of the drama in modern blockbusters seems to be consistently literal and relationship-based, rather than any sort of existentialism happening.

I think a big part of the problem is that the ‘serious moments’ tend to focus on the wrong thing, anymore. Like, there’s very much a place for Gojira-style “monster as metaphor for real-world calamity” filmmaking, but in recent years filmmakers have chosen to focus more on family drama for their ‘serious’ content
