Thankfully the MacGruber series should be picking up this year right where this leaves off.

This is on my short list of potential shows to check out next after finishing Colony. I’m a few episodes into Altered Carbon and still deciding how I feel about it.
I’ve not gotten into any Asian TV really yet outside of the outstanding Korean “Kingdom” which I love. I’ve been eyeballing “Miss Sunshine” because Lee Byung-hung and Kim Tae-ri is just too good. I’ve also found myself getting into some anime for the first time, but that’s a whole other thing.
I too have gone deep into Asian cinema in lockdown with deep dives into Korean, Chinese, and Japanese cinema. Some really wonderful, and wonderfully deranged) stuff. Any gems you found you really dug?
I’m here to defend the honor of “Hercules” which I think is actually a very fun and lively action movie that defied my bottom of the barrel expectations.
I also enjoyed Shin Godzilla, it’s crazy but it’s got something on its mind. I do agree, that they typically rely on family drama in Hollywood instead of leaning into the kaiju attack as a metaphor. I think you could really do some great stuff using a kaiju to thematically/metaphorically deal with stuff like Katrina,…
Yes! I was thinking the exact same thing.
Same. The 2010 series was really great and Roar was an absolute hoot. I wish it got more seasons to see if it could reach the delirious highs of Teen Titans Go.
I hope to god Vin Diesel and Brad Pitt are available for this.
Seeing how elevated horror has been effectively able to use genre to tackle societal issues (as does sci-fi), I think it’s a little disingenuous to hear people decry that humans shouldn’t do anything but scream and run away in kaiju movies. Gojira certainly was a somber take on post-nuclear Japan, and I hope some…
I’m so sad I missed this post! My holy trinity of PB & J is:
I agree with the more is more approach, which is why I have the super long ultimate cut (which has some rocking blu-ray orange cover art). I think Kong: Skull Island is better, but I can’t be mad at this work of mad genius. Especially because Jackson seems to have burned himself out and been sort of wandering in the…
I’m voting Dennis for the Martin’s Potato Bread, Hawaiian bread, tortillas and Japanese Milk Bread. Cornbread I could take or leave and I’m out on whitebread, but those other 4 are strong enough on their own. Should’ve gone with pumpernickel over white IMO but I’m a bitch for dark bread
Martin’s potato bread! The best for PB&Js.
This is a bummer as I’m on a bit of a kaiju kick at the moment and was pretty interested in this buzzy comic. I’ll take a wait and see approach to watch how it unfolds and wait for the first trade paperback (as I always do) in hopes it gets its feet under it. So many of my favorite books are on hiatus (Saga, Motor…
I bought this album when it came out because I unironically really loved Sail--and still do--and yea, the album is really great. I don’t pretend to know a lot about music, but I’m saddened to hear they’ve kinda been pigeonholed as a meme based on what I thought was pretty eclectic, exciting album.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the game itself quite a bit, and the suicide mission is one of the best ever final/culmination style endings IMO. It’s just the politics of being forced to be a space neo-nazi and spend most of the game saying #notallcerberus which I always hated, and rings even worse today. I also missed…
Hard agree on the suicide mission and missing the sort of RPG influence on the shooter. I also missed the first game’s sort of Star Trek-ian discovery and eerie sci-fi noir that was replaced with generic video game military sci-fi and grimdark tone with people suddenly smoking and all the objectifying of female…
HARD agree. ME1 is my favorite game ever. ME2 has not aged well...
I agree with Ash Williams’ Kotaku article: The Mako is perfect and you should never try to improve it. I guess I’m in the minority who found one of the greatest joys of ME1 was just boogying along in the Mako to some flagged destination and staring in awe at a planet vista.
