Definitely the crappy OEM tires. I don't think I've ever had a car where they lasted more than 30,000 miles.

I saw this on the usual XKCD-Digg link and laughed. Whod've thunk it would turn up on Jalopnik?

@DoctorNine: That was my very first thought. What's wrong with this center link? There's no duct tape! Duh!

When the RedSox won the world series, I thought I'd seen everything. This, however, is as equally fantastic (and perhaps even a bit spooky).

@patman: Yep, I had a similar setup. Today they have earth-shattering subs and 1000W amplifiers. Back in the 80's we had 20W and 50% THD!

@patman: I think the one in the picture was the first generation Supertuner (kp-500) which came out in 1975 or 1976. There were later ones (Supertuner II's) that looked like normal AM-FM cassette decks (1979ish). Either one will do for good old analog headbanging.

This isn't exactly a penalty if she's good looking!

@Baby beater Benz: Wow, if that doesn't have LeMons written all over it, I don't know what does!

Mmmmm....good ol' downhome valve-cover chili!

This is a "Zen" vehicle. It just "is." What you see, is what you get. Screw fashion, screw high-tech, the hell with electronics, ABS, air conditioning and fancy seats.

No fair..you already gave the answer! When I was in high-school (back in the 80's), most of the headbangers had rusty '68 Chevelles. There were also a fair number of Novas, a Buick Regal or two, and perhaps an early 70's GTO.

Oh, I think he's heard of satellite radio. In fact, I think he's broadcasting it!

Somebody should make a calendar out of these. Who wouldn't like 12-months of grenaded engines?

I bet the funeral home is just dying to get that back.....

I was ready to vote "Nice Price," but then I saw it was all tarted up with cheesy ricer parts and the earthquake producing subs. No thanks, I wouldn't be caught dead driving that! Put it back to stock and we'll talk.
