@UDMan: Yeah, I don't suppose the bench seat would be "race safe." You did well for the price, and even better getting some $$$ for the radio, seats, and glass. By racing this one, you're helping another Corvair get restored.

@K5ING: The possibilities for having fun with this are endless!

What? No gold-plated candelabra hood ornament? No crystal chandelier dome-light? No gold plating?

Sweet. I can't wait to see that run! Stickers should adhere to the rust..after all, it's what keeps some of the heaps around these parts together.

Wow..talk about a project! At least if it's a Boston area car, you can be sure the turn signals have never been used!

@mechimike: That American Dad episode was priceless!

Sadly, I'm not qualified to drive it, but I do plan on being at LeMons New England and I can offer unlimited moral support.

It's a great car, but not that great nor rare.

I have multiple names for my car and my truck, most of which contain the words "box", "piece of," "crap" and "sh*t," or any combination thereof.

I'm all for alternative vehicles, and I'm sure it's pleasant enough for 50 MPG, but I still rather have a TDI Golf.

I think it's good looking example of the giant non-offroad highway cruising gas-guzzling luxo-boat SUV. If anyone is still into that kind of thing, I'd say it hits the mark. It's been mentioned already, but I'll say it again..it's a great vehicle..for 2002.

@Cognitive Friction: I thought Toyota was designing an in-seat bio-energy system to harness driver methane-emissions. (Only slightly less useful than the solar roof). They could use it to power the turn-signals. After all, I certainly wouldn't to waste .01 MPG by using old-fashioned alternator-powered turn-signals.

With all those ginormous batteries on board, it now has less interior room than a Mini. But hey, it's still big on the outside!

Is there any point to spending an extra 25% more for the hybrid option to gain what..another 2 MPG? It doesn't seem to be a very well-thought-out marketing strategy.

It's a Rolls. You don't need to gold plate anything to let people know you have money! Leave out the gold plating and it's a handsome car.

@pauljones: I don't think the *colour is bad at all, but no, the gold is tacky. It's a Rolls for Pete's sake and you don't need to gold plate it to make people think you have money.

If they get this battery production off the ground, it should give the electric car market a real kick in pants.

If they'd been driving a Ford Tempo, this never would have happened.

Where does somebody get the time to build something like that? Seriously? I can't even find the time to finish raking my lawn.

It's not even street legal ("needs tail-lights").
