California, for example, has the highest gas taxes in the U.S. — the price there is currently averaging $4.30 per gallon, according to AAA — but California also has the strongest and most interesting car culture of anywhere in the world, so it’d be hard to make a persuasive argument that the two are related in any…
As a European myself I strongly DISagree. Yes, it seems like the US is moving towards implosion. That however does not mean I am “watching this with a bag of popcorn, cold beer and much glee.” Quite the opposite really. Just like the Americans profit from a stable Europe, we Europeans profit from a stable US. We have…
From a museum perspective one has to make choices. A specific direction. I certainly agree with you that Japanese cars can be attractive for the reasons you mentioned. And that there is beauty to this. I also believe a museum can focus on the beauty of pragmatic engineering. It’s just that, in this case, they focussed…
I don’t really see the likeliness to be honest. And, honestly, that 208 is a good design. The Sentra, not so much.
Volkswagen Type 1, a Cisitalia, an E-Type, a Citroën DS, a 1967 911, a Willys Jeep, a Smart Fortwo, an original Fiat 500, and one of Alain Prost’s F1 cars. Eurocentric, much
It’s not about Germany. Had this been a camp full of SS soldiers we would not be having this conversation. It’s about innocent civilians that were explicitly targeted. These civilians were no collateral damage, they were the actual target. There was no real military target. And that makes it a war crime.
$23,900 for a 16 year old family car. No dice for me.
The question if it’s a realistic timeline is a good question.
I always find that interesting. How a brand with the same products can be perceived so differently in different markets.
The Taos is a car developed for developing markets though, unlike the Golf. So it’s an odd comparison.
As a European, this is odd to read. VW equates to bland and boring. For many decades now. THE brand to buy when you don’t care about cars. If this was not the case in your childhood, you must have had your childhood in the early 70s or before.
Meh. You can disable systems like these by simply pressing a button.
The thing is, those W124 taxis would last longer and offered more comfort to passengers. Which is why they were so insanely popular as taxis in the first place. I guess image played a factor as well. They were still a lot more expensive to purchase than your average Ford of the same size.
whereas in Europe they are just a Euro version of Ford, Chevy
It’s by definition not the lowest base model because it’s a 230E, regardless of options. So it has a more potent than base engine already. The base W124 for 1987 would be a 200 (with carbs, so no E). Or a 200D (diesel).
So it’s an ad for a car disguised as an article. This is a great way to alienate your audience.
Your description sounds more like ‘Tour de American and British Tourists’ to me.
I do believe there is some exception for tiny manufacturers like Morgan and Caterham, although I am too lazy to look up details. Brands like Subaru certainly do not qualify though.
