I actually interviewed eight different drivers at Washington who have also done Pikes (including Travis), and they unanimously called Washington the more challenging, more terrifying road. It climbs the same amount as the Pikes event (about 4,700 feet) and has an almost identical number of corners, but in five fewer

We call it ditchhooking, and I’m not sure if this one was a ditchhook or just a cut.

Now playing

There’s a pair of Focus RS’s in World Rallycross, and they’re quick as fuck.

Even if they do pave Washington it’s so narrow and technical I don’t think it’ll lose much of the challenge/intimidation factor. In fact it might add some. That run up to the Cragway turn is terrifying, with those multiple small crests which the road goes ever so slightly right over, and zero reference points to track

Yeah, it was a bit wonky for me too. It initially put the photo in three times over.

Next run will be 2020, they announced it during the awards

I talked to someone with the road, and it may in fact be impossible to completely pave it. Paving a road narrows it in the process, and they can’t afford to make the dirt section any more narrow than it is. So the only way to pave it would be to widen the mountain first.

Absolute madness. Here’s a photo from the helicopter of Travis putting a wheel over the abyss

That wouldn’t have gone well for the first day or so when we were in the Sierras and it was 50's and raining

No regrets!

Many, yes. But I don’t know how you’d put one on an air cooled, rear engine Baja Bug.

Not sure that would be an option on the Baja Bug we had

Getting AC in the Baja Bug would have been much more complicated than just “fixing” it

...some people like old cars?

The Baja had one but we left it behind because we didn’t have room for it

I think I speak for everyone when I say MOAR BAJA BUG STORIES!

She’s from Texas. She only lived in Wash for a few years

OMG WAS THAT THE DAKAR DURANGO?!

Yeah, that happens sometimes

Are you talking about the rollover? Because that had nothing to do with any drone
