Haha yep! My job duties include annual meetings with manufacturers, including GM. When we were meeting with them in 2014 - they had a preproduction Camaro prominently on display and one of the platforms engineers who was showing the car to us proudly exclaimed “and this is the FIRST Camaro with a 4 cylinder engine!” to

You think that’s slow, you should’ve checked out the basic ‘82 Camaro. It came with an Iron Duke 2.5 liter four with your choice of either a 5-speed manual or (I believe) a 3-speed automatic.

Come on, mate.

“Why do we even have that lever!?”

When I was 13 - my parents bought a jalop special brown ‘81 Fairmont wagon - brown interior, 4 speed manual. While they were signing the papers, I spent my time sitting in the Fairmont Durango they had in the showroom. Loved it the day I saw it, love it 40+ years later.

And on a lot of newer cars, you can’t even SEE the alternator, so labor is going to be crazy high for what used to be three bolts and a connector.

So true, I had to replace the alternator on my 2008 Venza and they have to drop the engine to get to it, $1300 for that one. My power steering needs to be replaced soon and it’s the same situation.

$500 today wont cover an alternator replacement at a shop for most anything built in the last 15 years. Yes, I know a lot of us here can handle this repair but many cannot. I just checked and an alternator at Autozone for my 2010 Camry is $375+ tax. Shop labor is an hour. $175/hour is not an uncommon shop rate here -

Because of this, the craft was only expected to survive for a few days, but has now survived its third Lunar night which is a roughly two-week period of freezing temperatures and complete darkness.

SLIM doesnt care about the shady.

I bought a 1993 Loyale with 50K on it about a decade ago. True little old lady car. It did not enjoy being brought into commuter duty and within a couple weeks it was leaking oil from practically everywhere. A weekend and a $100 Rock Auto gasket set had it sorted and it was pretty flawless - slow AF but flawless until
