$500 today wont cover an alternator replacement at a shop for most anything built in the last 15 years. Yes, I know a lot of us here can handle this repair but many cannot. I just checked and an alternator at Autozone for my 2010 Camry is $375+ tax. Shop labor is an hour. $175/hour is not an uncommon shop rate here -
