Yeah, it was weird.  2016 was the best year for the 500X (24,948 VOR) but tanked for 2017 (6,648).

According to Polk, there are about 22,000 ‘17 Fiat 500s currently on the road in the US. 14K 500, 6,600 500X and 1,400 500Ls.

When I was going to tech school in Phoenix in the late 80s - we had a mule made from one of these. All of the body except for the bumpers, dash/cowl and header panel was gone. A floor was made out of expanded metal and had a fiberglass high-back bucket bolted in.

May be disqualified on some technicalities but this was available here in the US in 1985. Available in AWD, dual sliding doors and seats up to 7 (admittedly 2 in rear jumpseats.

This times a billion. I am going to pick up the newest addition to the beater fleet after work today - a 2007 Focus hatchback I paid the *total* price of $300 for. It’s going to replace the ‘02 Focus I’ve had for the last 3 1/2 years that I paid $250 for.
