If everyone is all in for this year, then pay the man and go for it. I'm not sure the Chargers are in "all in" mode.

Doesn't he lose a year of service time if he doesn't report? If so, then he's just a year closer to retirement, not free agency.
Just because the Chargers can pay Gordon it doesn't mean they should. That's a values question that I can see both sides of the argument. Gordon just has less leverage than the Chargers.
The notion that paying Gordon = Super Bowl is laughable.
Right. Every player could get hurt. Which is why it makes it understandable why the Chargers don’t want to over-invest in a single player for a extended period. Flexibility is more important because of those injuries than paying a player just because they want to be paid.
And he has a contract that says he will provide those services at a set rate. His leverage is minimal.
Agreed that the limit is more artificial than practical. That recognition doesn’t change the limitation. The Chargers have limited resources to spend and Gordon offers a relatively common skillset. He has little leverage and his best hope is for a trade.
Except every extra dollar they pay Gordon is a dollar less to spend elsewhere. And there is no guarantee as to how long he will remain healthy. The team is playing their strongest hand. I dont have a problem with Gordon holding out but he just doesn't have much leverage at this point.
Yes it is.
Well, it triggered you, so clearly it’s still a thing.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to say that in a work meeting when someone spouts off with meaningless jargon or says something astonishingly stupid.
Couldn't agree more.
The people who find this inspiring are the ones who only see God's handiwork in this rather than an idiot who ignored symptoms for too long and then was saved by medical science.
I get the appeal of shitting on Jerry because of his seeming hypocrisy about players honoring a piece of paper when he can cut them at any time but Jerry and the owners can always point a different piece of paper that trumps player contracts - the CBA. Yeah, it’s a terrible deal for players but owners see it as an…
Logan Mankins in was a holdout in 2010.
James is playing a longer game than a few basketball seasons.
“Bad but profitable” is clearly the goal for the 2019 Orioles. That’s why they have a roster filled with fringe major leaguers.
Probably, but it was funny so I’m sure there is an allowance.
Yeah, that doesn't play into stereotypes about D&D players being virgins who are scared of girls.
They are fucking amazing, especially when served with yellow mustard.
