I will keep that in mind - I'm worried that I'll miss a lot but all I can do is dive in and see what happens. I'm hoping to read it before I see the movie.

After you finish All Clear (sequel to Blackout), be sure to check out To Say Nothing of the Dog, I'd say it's the best of her time-traveling historian books. It's certainly the most enjoyable. I enjoyed Blackout and All Clear, but I felt like they could have been edited down to one book and been a lot more impactful…
I'm finishing up Slow Regard for Silent Things and then I'm going to tackle Inherent Vice. I've never it, or any Pynchon for that matter, so we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for reminding me I need to see Calvary!
There may be obvious examples that I'm blanking on, but can anyone think of a movie with a strong Christian message that is actually well made and generally considered to be a good movie? I don't think the two are inherently mutually exclusive, but it seems like a really difficult thing to pull off.
I like Penny too and he is a great foil for Quentin. Actually, thinking about it like that it's funny that Penny is still able to get a rise out of Quentin even after he's matured a lot over the years.
I wholeheartedly agree. I liked the first book, but Quentin annoyed me. I really liked the second book, and I loved the third. I was also impressed that his characters actually grew and matured over time (except Penny, he's just a dick).
I kept imagining how great it would have been if Alan Cumming had played Hook.
I'd like to see LyingCat's take on this…
It truly is the C'son of the Witch.
I fucking loved ReBoot when I was a kid.
Listing the score AND the reviewer would be even more helpful, but they'd probably be easy to guess.
For the "AV Club Was Wrong About" categories, it would be really helpful if they included the grade in the choice options. I can't remember what the scores were for a lot of things and I'm certainly not going to go look up what they gave Birdman in order to figure out if I thought they were wrong about it…
If Irving defeating the suit of armor had left Henry without any powers (but still resulted in Irving's death), and subsequently Katrina had used the sword to kill Moloch, sacrificing herself to save her Henry it would have been a much more satisfying ending, the two more useless characters would have been eliminated,…
I couldn't have broken it down better myself. I hope John Boyega doesn't mind that sand getting everywhere.
On the one hand, I think it would be awesome if he played the role in both the Stand movie(s) and an eventual Dark Tower adaptation. On the other hand, the idea of a Stephen King shared cinematic universe is absolutely exhausting.
Followed by Highway to Hell, just to cover my bases.
He looks very Marc Evan Jackson-y in that photo.
Send me a check for $100 and I'll gladly save you a seat. Hopefully it will be a while though…
All of them.
