I know we’re pretty loose on what we call “LA” here, but I doubt anyone would consider Montecito part of LA.

I meant more along the lines of when the car was under warranty. Every time the Ford dealer had to get it approved where Audi or BMW just took care of it, usually if it wasn’t 100% a warranty issue.

I’m assuming you attended your monthly HOA meetings? You voted at board elections? I get it, they’re not perfect, but it’s not like you can’t do anything about them if they get out of hand. People just don’t want to put any effort in to it.

At least out here, most of the places built after the 80's have HOAs. So that doesn’t leave many options if you want something newer.

Don’t act like the only good place to live is one with an HOA.

My last place and my next place are both town homes, so HOA’s kind of come with the territory.

You don’t work for a staffing agency do you?

So we have the “Icy when wet” and “Ice on bridge” signs here in SoCal, but you kind of forget about them since it doesn’t frequently rain or get cold enough to be an issue. However, our car club took a drive up Angeles Crest (goes up into the mountains) and when the first car went over a bridge, he started going

This was my experience going from a few German cars to a Ford. It’s very strange how they handle things that a German dealer would just take care of.

I wouldn’t know as I’ve never been lucky enough to live in a non HOA community, but it probably does suck to have a nice house surrounded by houses that are falling apart.

True. Probably the latter.

My friend works at Hyundai and that’s pretty much how it is.

I kind of assumed he didn’t actually get out and he just daydreamed that part.

That’s not how HOAs work. At least the one I was on the board of. We couldn’t just make up rules. That would require a vote of every owner. This HOA is stupid and opening themselves up to liability. Their management company isn’t doing a good job in guiding the board.

Because there’s always an option? Especially with a townhome. I didn’t love the HOA at my previous place (though I got on the board so that helped), but they aren’t all bad. My friend lives in an older neighborhood where a few of his neighbor’s houses look like crap and haven’t been kept up.

I’ve never had this issue with Audi or BMW. But when I had a Ford, I went to a local dealer, since I bought the car down in San Diego and I’m in North L.A. I had a back and forth with the manager of the service department over being misquoted for service and his come back was “Well you didn’t buy the car here!”. Well,

Yeah.

I pretty much go to 76 and haven’t really seen them. Then again, I’m up in the Valley so maybe they just haven’t made it up this way yet.

Same thing happens to me on my E46 M3, usually because it’s problem free.

In 2003, we had a Math or English teacher show up in a bright red Roush Mustang (stick!) with a For Sale sign. Turns out her husband had broken his ankle and could no longer drive it.
