Thete are plenty of accounts of front-line soldiers doing this in wartime not only to keep their loads light, but also so that multiple people could read the book at the same time since books were frequently hard to come by.

You can still share it / loan it / give it to someone. Though nobody is obligated to pass their books on to others, so I don’t really know why you (or anyone) would care what other people do with their books.

Dogs have been bred for millennia to please their owners and behave as they are taught to behave. That an owner teaches a dog to do bad things (or a dog simply learning bad behavior from the owner’s behavior and/or being treated badly by them) doesn’t make the dog bad.
