At least this car came with the optional gauge cluster hook. I believe that’s to hold the piece of plywood used to cover up the warning lights.

We have a 2017 and our fuel mileage is actually incredible. I’d say lifetime average of 28 miles per gallon, mixed city and highway. But our city isn’t much of a city, and we spend a lot of time driving in the mountains, which always gives us better mileage. Never worse than mid 20's though. 

My wife has an XT, and we found ourselves next to each other at a red light, me in my GTI. My story is I was distracted by her beauty and she got off the line quicker. That’s how I remember it.

You beat me to it.  I was going to post about my ‘87 Jetta, that cost me all of my savings, cash, and credit...down to the last penny.  

I remember getting more mileage out of a pitted bb (or headset, or hubs...) by popping the bearings out of the races, which made room for an additional bearing.  Worked like a champ, but if I were to try that today I have no idea where I’d find those extra bearings.  

I had a Mach 1.  It didn’t turn good either.

Agreed. The worst car I ever owned was a 10 year old Jetta I bought with 28k on the clock.  WHERE WERE YOU WITH THIS ADVICE THEN??!
