At least this car came with the optional gauge cluster hook. I believe that’s to hold the piece of plywood used to cover up the warning lights.

In the late ‘80's, an ex girlfriend bought a brand new Hyundai and called it “a good investment”
Yeah, me too, but it was at the top of a steep hill so I could get away. It saved me from finding out if he was trying to protect his females or make me one of them
My uncle got me a set of deer whistles because I’d just had my second near miss...on my mountain bike.
A couple years ago I was driving to pick up my daughter from school when a fast-moving front rolled in, and within the blink of an eye the wind whipped up and started blowing dust and sand all around. Some movement in the corner of my eye caught my attention, my brain telling me it was a trash bag or something being…
I had an agent upgrade me from the car I wanted (Corolla or similar) to a Chrysler 300. She described it as “glorious”. I drove it to breakfast and realized I had mere minutes before the battery in the key died, so I drove it the mile back to the agency expecting them to change the battery. The manager had the key to…
Her last car was also a Forester...non-turbo, but with a six speed. The only reason we didn’t buy that one off her lease was because the dealer offered her the XT for the same $. The CVT...it’s fine. Minor irritation at times, but no worse than whatever else is wrong with every other car in the same price range. The…
When I was young and poor(er) I had a close friend getting married. He lived 700 miles away, and my car was unlikely to make the trip. A friend worked for Enterprise and he could get me a decent price on a rental, so I ended up making the drive in a Toyota Corolla. Efficient and comfortable, after driving straight…
I really don’t think there is one. I thought it would be my 2012 GTI, but over time little nagging things about it got more and more frustrating. I thought it would be our 1990 camper van, but you gotta park that thing somewhere. I thought it would be my dad’s 2002 Tundra, but when I had the opportunity to get it I…
We have a 2017 and our fuel mileage is actually incredible. I’d say lifetime average of 28 miles per gallon, mixed city and highway. But our city isn’t much of a city, and we spend a lot of time driving in the mountains, which always gives us better mileage. Never worse than mid 20's though.
My wife has an XT, and we found ourselves next to each other at a red light, me in my GTI. My story is I was distracted by her beauty and she got off the line quicker. That’s how I remember it.
as someone who actually rides a Cannondale Lefty, I gotta say the asymmetrical loads are a non-issue. Great fork, super light, and stiff as anything out there (hex shaped sliders instead of round to keep it from twisting). The only negative I can come up with is the dive. If only it had some sort of anti-dive…
Room in the trunk for a monkey!
You beat me to it. I was going to post about my ‘87 Jetta, that cost me all of my savings, cash, and credit...down to the last penny.
I remember getting more mileage out of a pitted bb (or headset, or hubs...) by popping the bearings out of the races, which made room for an additional bearing. Worked like a champ, but if I were to try that today I have no idea where I’d find those extra bearings.
I had a Mach 1. It didn’t turn good either.
When this car was new I loved it. I thought “this is the future”.
My neighbor used to do this with his Harley at 6 am outside our bedroom window. 15 minutes of “BUP BUP BUP BUP BUP BUP” while he warms it up IN THE SUMMER.
Agreed. The worst car I ever owned was a 10 year old Jetta I bought with 28k on the clock. WHERE WERE YOU WITH THIS ADVICE THEN??!
