My old Miele road bike was the only bike I’ve ever been on that had both sloppy, slow steering but was twitchy at the same time.  It was the anti-holy grail.

I’ve been riding and racing bikes since the ‘70's, and up until about 8 years ago every single one was a frankenbike like yours.  Then I bought a new bike, and holy crap!  EVERYTHING works...without even having to dick with it!  So out with the old and no longer a retrogrouch.

My dad’s mechanical skills got me into bicycle racing.  Mom would say “go help your dad”, dad would say “help or stay out of the way”, I would choose the latter and go for a bike ride.

My old pickup had a battery that would die if it got below freezing, so I always parked on a hill.  The one time that didn’t work was when it got down to like -10 and I couldn’t get the truck to roll fast enough.
