I had a ‘78 Scirocco with bald tires, and the only way out of my work’s parking lot was a big hill in either direction. I left work one snowy day and gunned it to try to make it up the hill to the left (other direction was a narrow, hilly, twisty road...bad choice in the snow). I made it about 3/4ths of the way and

As a youngster I went with my parents to look at used cars.  “Hey Dad, you should look at this one!” I said pointing to the Celica.  We went home with an AMC Concord.  Nearly 40 years later I’m still pissed.

We visit Quebec nearly every year to see my wife’s family, but we’ve only visited in the winter once. ONCE.  Not by my choice, but my wife’s.

Try blowing a kiss next time. Seems to really irritate some guys when another guy blows a kiss.

Santa Clause says bad words? :(

I keep thinking about an electric car, I really hate getting gas but I love road trips. But for, say, a ski trip...250 mile round trip. More power to get up into the mountains MIGHT be offset by regenerative braking on the way back. But maybe not, and we’d be pretty remote so I probably shouldn’t risk it.  So I’d

Mine was a lease. It’s my fourth VW, and the last one I had nearly bankrupt me (‘85 Jetta). The one before that (78 Scirocco) vapor locked every time it was hotter than ‘85 degrees (in Kansas City, that was about 200 days a year), and before that was a Type 3 that I watched rust away while saving up for yet another

Not in the mountains where I live. 29 highway is easy but we’ve had 34. Of course Houston doesn’t have mountains, things are probably different driving around town.  Still, lifetime average on ours is 26.

He should get the last gen Subaru Forester XT. Big enough for whatever, fast enough for whatever, AWD for whatever the hell he needs AWD for in Houston, and nearly 30 mpg on the highway.

I almost feel guilty about not putting my money where my mouth is regarding new cars, but I can only buy so many.

Seven years on my GTI and I’ve had to replace the battery and my shift lever was a little squeaky. Oddly, this has been the most reliable car I’ve ever owned (including Acura and Subaru)

Funny, I couldn’t find the words “Nonsmoker” anywhere in the ad

Exactly this. How many cars for sale in your town?  I’ll bet it’s more than one.

Those poor fans won’t get out of the way now, when they can actually hear the cars coming. Still, I’m all for it.

This one is 25 grand

How is this different than what anyone wants from any car?  We want it all.

Is there a fourth ski on that car or was Roger Moore much more of a man than I thought he was?

Nope.  Not a good fit.

Some day you’re going to get to drive a Lexus hybrid, and the comfortable cabin temperature, luxurious leather, good gas mileage, and blissful lack of creaks and rattles is going to break you.

Absolutely the next car on my list.
