I agree with you completely on the small EV vs. the larger hybrids. I drive my GTI as a commuter, but that’s only a 10 mi round trip, so the Forester becomes the “family car”. There’s only three of us, but I can’t convince the others that the GTI is roomy enough to drive it with them very often. I think it’s roomy,

We have three cars...a sporty car (GTI), a utility car to take skiing/road trips (Forester), and a camper van for longer stuff. Of the three vehicles, which makes the most sense as a hybrid? For us, and I’m going to assume a million others, NOT the sporty car. I get 30+ mpg in the GTI, I don’t feel like I need

The SS looks like a really nice car. Its weird to me to find so many American cars I actually like these days...weird and welcome.

the size of the engine bay makes it difficult to bend-at-the-knees whilst lifting.

I really WANT to like the Bolt. I think the Volt is a gorgeous car, and despite the fact that it’s nothing that I want, I really want one, you know? I keep telling myself that the Bolt goes a step further than the Volt, but the bottom line is the Bolt looks like what you’d buy if you needed a car and your cousin

Because “I hopped into my brand new Jeep, flipped on the A/C and listened to my Cher Pandora station all the way to Moab” might be the story that costs you readers.

I’m beginning to think you put yourself in these positions on purpose

I think he lost the whole “blend into the crowd” thing when he climbed into the Lotus. I’ve never been to spy school, but I imagine on day 1 they say “Don’t drive a car everyone will stare at”.

Ha! I forgot about that!

I zoomed WAY in...looks like it says “Roger Moore” right above 007. Which tells me one of a couple of things: Either the top-billed star of the entire franchise had to tell crew-members his name, OR (more likely) James Bond was working undercover as Roger Moore. Pretty convincing likeness.

I want a Lotus Esprit, just so I can put skis on it. This picture somehow tattooed itself on my psyche...it was going through my mind as a teenager when I had to carry my XC skis on the outside of my VW Type3. Not as cool as the Lotus, but pretty damn cool.

Moore was my favorite Bond for the same reason he’s everyone else’s least favorite. I saw an interview once (I think on Top Gear) where he said Bond movies aren’t realistic, why should he pretend they are? And by the later movies I loved watching the women in the movies swoon over this creepy old guy in polyester.

This was my favorite episode of the season for precisely the same reasons you seemed to not like it.

Audi Quattro. It might take some youtube to show the kid what it is, but it’ll be an easy sell. Plus it’s a decent driver with a comfy back seat

I believe at that price I would consider it a “Recreational Vehicle”

You should have bought the special pliers, the ones you used gave your car tetanus.

I love this kind of writing. I’m not a mechanic, but when I fix some part of my car it’s a victory. And quality job of setting the mood, this piece read like a Springsteen song.

I’ve had TWO sales people at our local Subaru dealer tell me “don’t spend all your money on a new car. It’s just a car. Get something cheap and reliable”

This one gets my vote
