Hardly. People are much nicer to me in my BMW vs. my previous Porsches.

Many of us have been hating on Porsche for doing this for a long time.

This!  I’ve seen one Porsche SUV and zero BMW SUVs at track days over the last few years.

I’m sure I’m supposed to think this is cool, but it just looks like obnoxious tribalism to me. Just go to a fucking track and race your car.

Weird. I don’t recall seeing a single BMW SUV at a track day this year, unless it was pulling a race car. What is the point of these?

I can really relate to this (I also grew up in Indiana.). I drove from LA back to Portland last December, and I got into this great groove with another driver, where we were carving the empty highway together, switching lanes back and forth to hit the “apex” of each curve for an hour. It was one of the more fun times

Not really.  The last true 911 was the 993, and the last that I would still buy was the 997, which is about to become two generations old.

I used to agree about the exterior, and I still agree about the interior. I also agree about the 996.1 headlights, but the 996.2 headlights, despite not being round, are pretty cool. I was shocked that, despite GT4s, 991, 997 and classic 911s being around, I was drawn to a guy’s plain 996.2 at the last club meeting.

I actually prefer the base Carrera 996.2. I was never a big fan of the more overwrought side skirts like on the GT3.

Hot take. While the front of the 996 is controversial, the rear is the best in the water-cooled era. I used to own a 996.2, and I’ve started feeling nostalgic for it at Porsche Club meet ups. They look so sleek and clean.

It thankfully has the 996.2/Turbo headlights, which are not the egg headlights.

No kidding. I once had a 2010 Merc that had a rear SAM board that could get wet via water ingress and short the whole thing out.

This car may have a client of one:

Technically, the very first 911 Turbo was ‘74, and it was the coolest:

I certainly agree, but, to sell cars, it’s unfortunately still a numbers game.

Oh, I know. I currently drive a 2012 135i...with a manual. :)

Yeah, I was a little too flippant about it not being a real M car. I must meant that it didn’t have an M derived powertrain, but I guess you could say the same of the 1M.

I’m glad you posted this, because a lot of posters around here don’t realize that non-M, M badged cars actually predate all of the M cars, outside of the M1.
