I have had rental properties for almost 30 yrs now and Air BnB scares the shit out of me. People I know who used to have long-term rentals, like a year at a time, are switching to short-term rentals because the money can be so good. That is what will REALLY wreak havoc on some of these neighborhoods.

Sorry, I literally couldn’t remember how to spell his last name.  I was delighted to see his name pop up in the Style section which, as a good ex-garmento, I read every day.  I think Caity is working for him, yes?

Speaking as someone who said that she had won the World Series pool when she had, in fact, won the office Super Bowl pool, I would like to say that even I knew who Tim Marchman was.

I like to say that I spent the first 40 years of my life trying to repress my hair, my breasts and my personality and the last 20 NOT GIVING A FUCK.

FYI, most farmers kill rabbits at the beginning of the winter.

It’s a miracle that he got elected mayor twice.

I love this bit.  I thought at one point that a bunch of friends had identified the bar he was tossed from--we thought it was a place that was over on the far West side called Tunnel (back in the late 80s).

Oh, I have been there!  And the book selection is TERRIFIC!

Well, AirBnB is part of the reason why there is a housing crisis where I live. Lots of people who have rental units prefer shorter-term turnovers—it’s more work but you aren’t dealing with the issues caused by long-term tenants.

I would like to see what that $50,000 profit is on a per-hour basis.  Property flipping is a tough way to make a living, in my experience.

Just did a 1031 with the sale of our primary house and bought two properties outright, both with rental units.  I like the idea of a revenue stream that is independent (to some degree) from stock-market volatility.  Agreed that houses aren’t ‘liquid’ but we live part-time in both of them--in fact, we bought them based

Mr. Bug and I bought our first rental property in 1993 and have owned both long-term and vacation rentals. We first bought a building where rentals would cover the mortgage and taxes, which allowed us to live basically mortgage-free for 25 years (we budgeted for renovations separately, based on bonuses from my

My grandfather used to put Seagrams on his cornflakes every morning. He kept a handle in the cabinet behind his seat at the table, so he could just reach behind and grab it.

Broke mine eating a salad.  Goddam LETTUCE.

There is a book on that for sale IN THE GRAND CANYON BOOKSTORE.  I mean, you can see the rim from the register.  You would think that would give the clueless a clue but NOPE.

Respect.

Wait, Kate, I thought you lived in Hoboken? Didn’t I read that somewhere?

My neighbors say--keeps them from bothering the birds.

Mr. Bug and I just drove from Maine to San Diego, stopping at 13 national parks along the way. The ways in which people endanger themselves as well as these fragile environments is absolutely mind-boggling. I saw a woman back HER WHEELCHAIR up to the edge of the Grand Canyon to take a selfie. I saw people walking off
