Hoonability. The lack of an option to turn off traction control and roast the rear tires. This is really fun in the snow or out in the fields in my Silverado. Getting an 8000-lb truck with 765 ft-lbs of torque to go sideways is a thrill that’s hard to put into words.
This. I’m 6'4" tall, and it’s utterly ridiculous that the bed rails on an average pickup are nearly up to my armpits. I bought a Silverado 2500 Duramax when we moved out to a house on 600 acres and I needed “farm truck” for all the crap like tractor implements that don’t fit in the hatch of a GTI (and all the stuff…
Bravo, Mr. George, on the perfect video accompaniment to the COTD.
I get where you’re coming from, but there are exceptions.
Egg-smackly! And Honda sold a zillion of those. Exactly the point: the lack of a grille isn’t killing any particular car. Poor design certainly will. My opinion (and it is just that) is that the mustache was a very poor design choice. It’s just ugly, for starters. It ruins what could otherwise be beautifully clean…
As they say, “beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder.” ;-) I’ll grant you the F430 may not qualify as “great”, but I don’t think it looks bad. And the Scuderias look pretty darn good.
I still disagree with all the presumptions that the lack of a grille is too shocking for people.
I picked up my 2016 SS sedan (with the Tremec manual!) and started driving it at the beginning of April... granted, that was after I signed the paperwork in March and waited two weeks while it was transported to a tuning shop and fully wrapped in Xpel Ultimate paint protection film.
Ah yes, that one, too. And let’s throw the Kawi ZX-10R into that mix.
LOL at the autoX/lockbox suggestion. These things need some kind of driver safety/proficiency included with the sale.
Bloody hell... Fat lot of good a ‘roo bar would’ve done in that situation.
LOL, came here to post this... *thumbsup*
Yep, in the Golf it just made it nose heavy, and felt like too much for a small FWD car. I really did love the motor itself though... someday if I ever have too much time on my hands, I’d like to swap a VR6 into a 944. Yeah, you can stuff an LS in one, and it’d be faster but that’s beside the point. I want a great…
Under the sheet metal is even more commonality. With other brands, something the size of the Legacy platform (Legacy, Outback) would have no common parts with the smaller Impreza platform (WRX, Impreza, Crosstrek, etc). But with Subaru? There are shared engines, shared drivetrain components, even the anti-roll bars…
Solution: go old-school VW. Air cooled or early water cooled. I had a ‘98 GTI VR6... loved the motor, but didn’t like much else about the car, and especially all the gremlins it had. I still have a Mk2 (‘86) GTI. That car was a lot of fun. After 170,000 miles, it’s getting resto-modded. Not much to go wrong, easy to…
Yep. Count me as one of them. Three pedal aficionado, but I am not going to argue that they’re faster or more efficient. New DSGs are incredible, and certainly faster than me rowing my own around a track.
While I am a huge three-pedal aficionado, I’d take one of these in coupe form for trackday work. Audi brings back the butt-kicking turbo 5? Yes please!

Good roundup. :-) Pirelli World Challenge from Long Beach on TV now. WRC set to record. V8 Supercars on the DVR and the next race set to record.
