While developing what became the 86, they started out insisting that it have a certain low-slung look. Then they realized they didn’t have an engine which could fit under the hood. Rather than compromise the design, they bought a non-negligible fraction of Subaru so they’d have access to a flat engine.

The interior quality of their current lineup is still shit. Worse than GM and Ford, who are both considerably worse than the Europeans. Even the top end stuff is not good quality.

I’m sure the comments here will defend all of the noted vehicles, especially the Sebring/200. Just because you worked hard in order to buy a new Caliber doesn’t make it a good car or even a decent one.
