The third game is the only one that is relatively faithful to the novels and the character relations within it(at least, in my opinion). The first two games seem more like an abstraction of the world, and have a feel more out of the short stories.
They have discussed this (CDPR). They felt that Yen (and Ciri) were too integral to the Witcher lore, and didn’t really feel comfortable using those two characters at first.
I liked Sera, she is probably one of the more grounded characters (along with Iron Bull). She actually felt like a real person instead of an archetype.

The new version has a great fast forward function. Makes grinding go MUCH quicker, as well as travel and walking around in general. Also, the class system is a blast, and much better than old general grid that made every character homogenous. Boss fights and uber-boss fights also go quicker, now that they can be hit…
