Our V8 needs to warmed up (circulating hot coolant and hot oil) prior to start.

Our requirements are very, very different from a road-going engine. For instance, we don't care about any form of emission. So much so that we don't even measure NOX nor HC. A lot of work is put into generating as little "unwanted" by-products as possible for road cars, the injection plays a big role in that.
Thanks for the warning, Exif is a bitch! Although, given the name on this cam cover, google would have given my location too ;)
You are right. This fuel flow limitation is making us run the engine in a Diesel-like fashion in higher RPMs. The regulation is such that the best engine will be the one with the best efficiency, not power most power. Still, we could never run such high injection pressures. Gasoline would auto ignite, knock and…
I was hired as a graduate, did my mater thesis in another motorsport team (one that might win Le Mans this weekend).
Correct.
There will be snorkel on top of the airbox. The engine pictured in this article is just not showing it.
No one has driven the V6 yet (unless Mercedes went ahead with some more secret testings)... And the 2 ERSs will considerably alter the power unit response compared to the ICE alone.
One of the new things for 2014 is that the fuel flow will be limited to 100 kg/h at any instant (not on average). This means in the higher RPMs, fuel flow will be restricted and the torque curve will be unusually flat.
The regulations imposes a minimal weight of 145 kg (currently 95 kg) without the batteries. Weight reduction is a critical point in our development.
The whole power unit (engine + ERSs) will produce about as much power as the current V8. Namely, around 750hp.
Fixed veins mandatory. It's up to each motorist to choose how they're developing their super charger. Some familiar names are involved.
Not so soon. The new power unit (official name for the new engine and its ERSs) is very expensive as it is.
Indeed they are. Direct injection is mandatory. This image (by PURE) was already obsolete when it was released, several months ago.
In F1?
Almost 2 years now.
That's doable, let me get back to you on that tomorrow :)
