The amount of people on Kinja supporting them is overwhelming.
Speak for yourself. I live around Pittsburgh and I reserve my right to be concerned.
It does, I’ve seen pledges for certain fraternities that go through absolutely brutal hazing and never understood why they would stay in it.
Our study time was mandatory regardless of GPA, but yeah it is a good policy to remind pledges it’s not all about partying. One of my favorite parts was learning about the history of the fraternity that stretched back into the 1800s and the founders.
I told someone else this, but I was lucky in that my fraternity was fairly progressive. We had daily mandatory study time to reinforce it wasn’t all about partying. Also a lot of activities that involved teamwork as well as bonding with other pledges as well as brothers. Our hell week was literally just all of us…
Well, my blackouts all occurred between the ages of 17-20 (I’m 27 now) during senior year of high school and first 2 years of college. Honestly I appreciate them, because they did help me to learn my limits and how to drink responsibly. Luckily I never woke up with any injuries or having committed an atrocious act. In…
upcoming film The Libertine, as “a powerful French politician who endures house arrest in a luxury NYC apartment while awaiting trial for sexual assault against a hotel maid.”
I think a lot of places do it so that members feel like they accomplished a challenge. Mine really wasn’t bad though. We had scavenger hunts, going to an abandoned asylum, and trips to historical sites. The worst we had was having to come clean the house every morning and a mandatory hour where we all had to study…
My original reason was to be able to get into parties. At my college it was almost impossible to get into them if you were a non-greek male. After I got in though I realized I really didn’t even like Greek parties that much. Stayed friends with a lot of them, but realized I was more of a small-group partier.
Oh I’d love to see a video of that.
I know of someone in my town who has this fetish, and then they got caught molesting one of their friend’s. I didn’t realize it was such a big thing and it disturbs me as well.
Fraternities/sororities need to realize there are other ways to make pledging hell without being physically violent. As someone who went through it in a fraternity that wasn’t violent, there are ways to mess with pledges that doesn’t leave them in bruises or on the verge of a mental breakdown. In fact we actually had…
I’ve just accepted the Pens will win the cup in San Jose. They’ve won all their cups in away games. The people who complain should look at our neighbors in Cleveland who would be thrilled to win a championship at all.
This article gives me hope that entitled athletes who think they are immune will finally be held accountable for being pieces of shit
I just want to say sorry for all the fucked up men you’ve encountered. There really are good guys out there .
My college apartment had a shared breezeway for the whole building where we liked to party. Because of these ordinances the city came and took all our couches and chairs. 4 years later and it still pisses me off.
The amount of truth in this is depressing.
I’ve come to expect it from some people, but a judge? A judge who just basically said “Look at how she dresses before making a decision.” If these are the type people passing out sentences in this country I don’t want to live here anymore.
Heaven forbid she tries to have a normal life after all this.
