I just finished watching the "Rivers" episode of Human Planet. If you've never seen it, I highly recommend it. There's an entire section on how students in the Himalayas have to trek for 6 DAMN DAYS DOWN A FROZEN RIVER WITH AVALANCHES AND THIN ICE TO REACH SCHOOL!
