Sequel pitch time: Since now we have freedom lean more into lore, the sequel should be a very loose adaptation of the 1996 OVA anime. Something very fast and very weird is going around, terrorizing peoples and even toppling governments, and that’s threatening the secret of Sonic’s existence here on Earth.
Assassin’s Creed had to to open against a Star Wars film that people were going to see by default. AC was a great movie.
But It didnt, the studio was planned to shut down anyway, by the time MPC shut down they were at 10% of their largest size. And Is not like the VFX studio was doing the work for free. If anything It kept the 80 or so people employed longer than if the film was not reanimated.
Mortal Kombat may have the best video game movie theme song and be an overall better movie, but Street Fighter has the single best scene!
That is due to the bad management on the project. Are you arguing an inferior product should be put out vs delaying and correcting the product to make a proper one. Im not saying its a good movie but its like arguing that have Cats should have been released because of all the hard work which was done on it vs maybe…
Congrats to Ben Schwartz!
Does it rank up there to one of the best video game cult films of all time?
Just got back from seeing it with my two oldest girls, one of whom is a huge Sonic fan. It didn’t quite keep my 3yo’s attention but my fangirl was glued to the screen. I figured I would at least enjoy them enjoying the movie but I actually thought it was pretty entertaining. I hope you and yours have a blast!
This is one I’m taking my kid to watch, seems they got that right for the young ones, thank you!
Someone should show Joan over at Jez that this is what a fair review looks like. There is no reason to be an asshole about this movie. It’s a dumb, fun movie about a super-fast, blue hedgehog for a 90's video game. It’s not shakespeare.
The distance between this review and the one on AV Club is like the distance between stars in galaxies. XD
At the very least, giving Harbour a Worst Actor nom is bullshit, seeing how he *easily* was the best part of it.
It’s about anthropomorphic cats, there’s magic, mention of an afterlife & resurrection. It’s not as “genre” as, say, Star Wars, but it’s near enough...
It really felt like this should have almost been Huntresses story in some ways, but then she’s largely relegated to what I would call a near cameo. Also was not a fan with how they handled Cassie as I really love her in the comics and this felt like a waste of her potential.
After having seen this today.... boy have I got mixed feelings about it. Let’s get this out of the way up front: it’s better than that box office would indicate. There’s some really nice performances here, the last third (weirdly for a DC movie) is when it’s at its strongest and when it gets it right things click in…
2) Batman.
I’m disappointed as it was every bit as entertaining as I hoped it would be and then some (and I’m one who openly disparaged this when it was announced). I think the box office disappointment comes down to two factors:
The main issue this movie has is that from what I have been told is that it has very little in common with the comics. Hollywood’s biggest problem is that it is constantly trying to re-invent every IP they get a hold of and that doesn’t work 99x out of a 100.
WW was as close as possible to the comics in all DC movies…
