I was seriously considering buying a Challenger GT and putting a lift and some M/T tires on it until some quick back-of-the-envelope calculations revealed that doing the job right would run upwards of $5K on top of the purchase price of the car.

I appreciate the logic of your post, but the post-apocalypse-type of vehicle isn’t about the factual practicalities of living after a societal collapse. It’s more about the outward perception of rugged power and capability.
