@Almightywhacko: " It doesn't matter if a magazine is on paper on on an iPad, the main reason they are failing is that you can get the same information, cheaper and in a more timely manner on the internet.

@kingcrim84: Interesting! I also got Project, and I thought that although the design was beautiful, the navigation was poorly designed, and the content reminded me a lot of those airline magazines, the kind of fluff that only holds my interest when I'm stuck on a transatlantic flight and forgot to bring anything

@Hami83: I think it's not about getting people to pony up for a device to read a digital magazine; it's about getting people who already have the device to pay for the digital version of your magazine.

@Kadayi: Hmm.... I don't personally feel that way about Stephenson (I assume those are the "flourishes" you're referring to, since his writing is definitely more "baroque" than the spare, clean prose of Gibson).

@Kadayi: Not sure... by the way you wrote "the way Neal Stephenson wants to be William Gibson" I assumed you meant Stephenson was a weaker version of Gibson. Usually someone doesn't try to emulate someone else unless they see themselves as 'less than'.

@AvalonBright: Doh! (sorry... I won't make that mistake again... for awhile at least!)

@Kadayi: Actually, Gibson and Stephenson started off being lumped together in that whole 'cyberpunky' thing, but they've developed into totally different (and, imho, each quite awesome) writers in their own right since then...

@taniquetil: You have to be pretty naive not to realize that all the countries involved already know all about the horse-trading that goes on. I guarantee you, not one piece of information in those cables came as a surprise to any of the diplomats of any of these countries.

@m1ndtr1p: Yes! A thinking commenter! So rare, so awesome...

@rjp is protected: Well, yes, there is in fact widely reported "proof". Amazon booted WikiLeaks immediately following a call from Homeland Security Council member Lieberman, "suggesting" that it would be in Amazon's best interest not to align itself with this kind of activity.

Fairytale Adventure ftw!!

@waclark57: Just a few things.... first, it's unclear at best as to whether Assange actually broke any laws, as numerous legal authorities have pointed out.

I think the key to the game is the self-satisfied grunting the pigs do when you fail. Laugh now, assholes, I'm coming back for you!!!

@waclark57: Apparently you have a lot more trust in the benevolent intentions, not to say competence, of government than I do.

@newdetroit: Actually, in at least the case of Amazon, pressure from the government was clearly a factor in their decision to cut off WikiLeaks. They had continued hosting the site after the recent leak until they got a threatening call from Lieberman "suggesting" that it would be a good idea for them to separate

@OMG_cartman: Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I tend to agree more with this post than you do, although not unreservedly.

I got one, but after perusing their meager HD offerings, most of which are not available for rental, I gave up.
