For the wingtip to be dug into the ground like that, almost certainly the landing gear collapsed on at least that side, if not both sides. I would bet this bird is a write-off, or very close to it.

Nah... there will be thorough inspections throughout the airframe but most of the parts will be put back in service after (making sure they are airworthy)

Do you think that part of this was down to the fact that it was an ERJ145? Would that weather vane effect be less of an issue on a larger jet?

That’s kinda what I thought happened. I’ve never flown anything bigger than a King Air 200, but one experience landing in January with a strong xwind while braking action was fair got our attention as halfway through the rollout we got a little sideways. Lucky for us we’d slowed down enough before the high speed…

Not even close, unless it was an ancient DC-9. Which it wasn’t. So the right main gear folded up and there’s probably damage to the flaps and flap tracks/jackscrew and wing skin. Jets have seen more damage than this and been put back into service. 

Gotta throw the whole wing away fam.

Based on my completely lack of experience/ignorance of how things work behind the scenes in the aviation industry, I say they do what used car dealers do... just give it a really good detailing job and she’s good to go!!!

I’m an airline pilot, and a lot of inspection. It will be pulled off the line until not only a thorough damage inspection can be accomplished, but also until the NTSB finishes any investigation
