That $170k is the combination of wages + benefits total.

I will say,as a UPS retiree, that one does not have to try very hard to break $100k anymore and there are a LOT of drivers avg $130k.

If you’ve ever lived in a hot desert, you know that going into a cold area feels nice, but as you keep alternating between hot and cold, your body starts rejecting it and the headaches, light-headedness, fatigue, and cramping begin. You need to stick to one or the other.”

I say this as a Frito Lay vendor, our trucks are even worse, as most Frito Lay trucks only have 1 point of entry (back door), while most UPS trucks have 2 (side door(s) and the back door)

They’re not getting enough bad publicity unfortunately. I worked there from 01 to 12. They definitely do not care about their employees. "Drink more water if you're hot" is what they'd say.

I have s cousin that's on the high end of middle management at UPS, and all those people have to work as drivers for a while, so I suspect there is an element of "I had to deal with it and I survived" which tends to reduce any true concern.  Also, when you see the delivery driver running from his truck to the door,

They knew what they were signing up for

So what you’re saying is if drivers get sick or die it’s their fault. Got it.

Exactly! Says so right on the label!

I, for one, am very curious as to what flavor is that boot you’re licking.

Look folks we can’t run a sweatshop without some sweat

According to the drivers I spoke to, the cargo area is the main concern. Even having a way to get the hot air out would make a big difference, because at present there is no ventilation back there.

I cannot remember if the cab and cargo area are separate or there is a walk through. It probably depends on the truck.

Difference between expected work demands and expected safety. Workloads are demanding full 8 hour shifts. Safety demands a 15 minute break to cool down every 30 minutes in temps over 100F. The company is pushing them to work in proven unsafe conditions and refuse to even do as little to install as little as a a fan

“The health and safety of our employees is our highest priority.”

This entire comment is very stupid and reflects your basic lack of empathy and any understanding at all about economic realities in this country. But this gem made me laugh the most: “I won’t say I don’t feel sorry for UPS drivers...” and then you spend an entire paragraph explaining exactly how not sorry you feel for

master debater

The health and safety of our employees is our highest priority.

TL;DR if it costs us money, we don’t want to do it.

Just a minor correction...BOTH FedEx and UPS use USPS for ‘last mile’ deliveries in many areas, though it is not all packages all the time. The services are SmartPost and SurePost. There are a number of factors that going into determining whether USPS is used...number of deliveries in the same route, overall volume

FedEx Ground is the worst. Their contractor model is horrendous and doesn’t give the contractors any incentive to be at least a quarterway decent at their jobs. I remember the PS5 and XBSX fiasco where a bunch of them were stolen by FedEx during shipping. And sneakerheads know the anxiety that comes with their grails
