I grew up in Southern California, and these were fairly common when I was a kid. Always thought they were one of the best looking cars then. I like the Coupe better myself. A TR8 is one of the few vintage cars besides a DS or related that I would consider buying.

Not enough low end torque to go with those autos. I had a Mazda 323 with an auto, and it could barely move until it got to 15 mph, then it got better. I had a Protege later that was similar, but not as bad.

Lol. I had the 1980 Pontiac Sunbird Coupe with a 4 cylinder and automatic as my first car, so I understand your pain. It only cost me $100, and I got 30,000 plus miles out of it before the front subframe dissolved in a pile of rust, so I got my money’s worth, and almost tetanus.
