Sounds about right. I mean, our 1973 type II had 12 more horsepower, iirc, I don’t know if it’s slower than an older type II like our 1964, but you’d fall asleep before a 0-60 run was completed either way. Surprise, I was right. It was just a guess. But I’ve seen enough of your posts that I’m not really surprised.

That diesel wasn’t powerful enough for a Dasher(We had one for a year until it blew up), certainly not enough for a Vanagon. IIRC, the EPA on it was 29/29* leading CR to comment the engine was pretty much working full bore all the time.

Yeah, if he was going to to get a gowesty engine, he should have got the 2.7, I’m guessing with that, it could keep up with traffic and not get in everyone’s way. 

The reason the list of repairs is longer than a CVS receipt is that you’d have be on drugs to buy it!

If it was a Westfalia, maybe, but as just a van, get a used Honda or Toyota that’s a lot newer, faster, fuel efficient and safer.

By “unique” driving experience, you mean poor. We had 2 Type II’s for 18 or so years growing up, a 1964 bare bones bus, and a 1973 Westfalia. The 1973 sucked a lot less, but it still sucked. It’s what I learned to drive on.

Here’s the problem: Experts disagree with you. The people that agree with you are mostly grifters, and irresponsible people. You are like the people that have caused measles outbreaks. You don’t care about facts, you are just a brave person who knows your gub’ment always lies to you.
