Very true. I was thinking more of the media/public dynamic. People tend to stop at “something bad happened to someone” while background info on the incident (again, which does not excuse or justify someone’s actions) at least starts to paint a picture of why or how it happened

It’s also the excuse the mother of the 6 year old shooter used re: him breaking the teacher’s cell phone
