OP from 2014 from in front of my house. A new “mid-size” pickup parked behind an older late model Suburban. Bloat in trucks (and cars) has been happening over the last 20 years.

When I say stuff like this I get shouted down for wanting to take away buyers’ ability to choose, but whatevs. I agree nevertheless.
It’s a vicious cycle. Small man buys truck to feel big > Truck requires small man to use step stool > Step stool makes small man feel smaller > Small man buys bigger truck.
The way I was taught in school, baroque was from about 1600 to 1750, when Bach died. Then classical was from 1750 to 1827, when Beethoven died. Pickups from before 1750 are more collectors’ items than practical haulers these days. The 1750-1827 trucks can be daily driven it you don’t mind doing without a few creature…
I think you mean: I like—big—trucks and I cannot lie, you other brothers can’t deny... Personally I never wanted anything bigger than my 4 cylinder, 5 speed, 2WD, standard cab Toyotas. Fit a British 650/750 in the bed and close the tailgate, 25mpg, under 3 grand. Need a back seat? I don’t like anybody, I didn’t really…
I personally think trucks are too damn big. They are a danger to other drivers, they block the view of other drivers at intersections endangering drivers and pedestrians, and that aren’t even all that useful for their intended purpose or do they even give any more road clearance.
Kvelertak album is my favorite by leaps and bounds. And then, astonishingly, their former lead singer also put out an album this year ... and it’s nearly as good!
I know it’s old hat to complain about it at this point, but remember back when the AV Club covered music that wasn’t mostly the same crap that all the regular blah sources reviewed? I remember when the end of year album lists would be full of stuff to discover and albums that went beyond what you could just hear being…
Same. I don’t want a Corolla. I want this basically bespoke, ridiculous thing.
My brother has had five or six 1997-1998 Nissan Maximas. He works in sales. Buys them with low mileage (usually around 100K) drives them until the head gaskets explode (usually around 270K) and junks them.
It’s official. The Fantastic Four is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jon Watts (Spider-Man Homecoming) will…
An ES (same car) will actually be less expensive than the Avalon, in an ironic way...supply/demand and all those economicalitics in play and what not.
Even new or barely driven off the lot, they’re a great deal for what you get compared to a higher trim Camry since everything is basically standard. And like you said, further into the used market it’s just a screaming deal when depreciation kicks in. Especially when full sized cars from a non-luxury brand are hard to…
Guess it depends on his definition of good gas mileage. All the cars listed have decent to pretty good gas mileage. But If I was driving 120 miles round trip every day, I’d want significantly good gas mileage. And that means going hybrid (or getting a Tesla, which is way too expensive for this scenario) And there are…
I’d want something very comfortable and quiet for that much time in the car, so my first thought was Toyota Avalon. Doesn’t bring much excitement with it though.
Dude move closer to work.
I’ve posted this anecdote here before, but while filling up at a gas station near a bunch a dealerships a few years back, a guy drives up in a shiny new Buick Regal TourX. Turns out he was from one of the dealerships; a bunch of guys hanging at the gas station come over to scope out the car — which, everyone agrees,…
That does look handy...I was only speaking about their standard adjustables. The last one I got was awful; started comparing it to my older identical version, and hey, the “USA” mark is gone. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
...There is so much un-adapted Vampire fiction out there!
If HBO announced a World of Darkness/Vampire the Masquerade series, I would plotz.
True, but it did start the whole world crying.
