I agree, but i do live in the greater LA area. Maybe they were that cheap in the midwest or something, but if I had ever seen a clean S for under $10K I would have bought it.

I was mostly a UJM guy, so I was always team Mikuni. But a ton of bikes had constant velocity carbs in the day. Which generally ran perfectly if you left them alone and didn’t ever let the bike sit. Like goddamn wooden boats those carbs. Gotta be wet.

Put the airbox back on! They run better with the airbox. Flow isn’t the problem, they need the plenum space to smooth things out. If you’re keeping the factory carbs anyway. I put Mikunis on my TR6, which solved a bunch of problems, but I still used an airbox.

Back when I hung out with racers, the Pinto motor was highly sought after, especially by the boat guys. Bottom end is indestructible.

My FIL bought my wife a base Forester this year and it’s fine? We are in SoCal, so never anything I would have considered if it was my money, but it’s not objectionable in any way, other than some NVH. I like you can turn off the screen and it remembers.

Developers basically want to skim all the profit with as small an investment as possible. First they just pushed infrastructure onto munis, and when munis started to object, they just pushed the cost onto buyers through mello roos and other tax dodges.

Honestly, if you need more than 2 guys on a job, you probably need 2 trucks anyway. I almost never send 3+ dudes out in a single truck. Backseat area is just locking storage and we only buy them because we don’t have a choice sometimes.

Ir was SOP when I was a dealer mechanic to test ride everything. We had a little 5 mile loop where we could go the gears and generally get a decent feel for the bike. We had a little checklist we’d fill out and it would get attached to the invoice. Watercraft, we had a stock tank.
