It wasn’t meant to be particularly deep I don’t think. Sounds like the adaptation is going to lean more into the body horror aspects, which were pretty glossed over in both the books. Just going from 7 to 17 would be a pretty big change from book Mickey.

The drivetrains (except for the autoboxes) were fine. I had a few, all with some variant of the new era 6 (232,248,258,282 etc) and the motors were fantastic. Everything bolted to that motor though... I swear to god I was in the door panels weekly. If it wasn’t window regulators it was latches.

I mean, they weren’t up to snuff NEW.  It’s hard to overstate how bad the interiors were.
