Duh.

Anyone remember how we were going to rename french fries “freedom fries” because the French opposed the invasion of Iraq?

In my defense, Apple Maps told me it was a road!

Exactly what I came to say. Goddamn cowards.

Cowards

We live in the dumbest timeline

FTFY.

The Trailsport is 50k. How is that a huge discount? A 4Runner off-road is the same price and far more capable.

The TRD Off Road is $52K for the non-premium - around $57-58K for the premium. And either will come with a lot of hard plastic on the touch points - this could be good if you are truly off roading the trucks - but I feel that the Honda is likely a better spec for it’s price when it comes to tech and amenities. I would

The 4Runner is not a great road car. If you don’t off road it makes no sense. There’s a ton of alternatives, like the Pilot/Highlander etc for on road use that will offer a better on road user experience. I think what is causing heads to be scratched is that the new Pilots off-road package puts the price into 4Runner

That’s fair, a lot of people want the tough offroad looking vehicle but don’t do anything to push them anywhere near their limits.

The Passport has better acceleration, better braking distance, and better handling on the road, and it will make it to any trailhead no problem. If you need/want more off-road capability than that, then, yes, it wouldn’t make sense to choose this over the 4Runner.

I know that, but all the normal people don’t and may not want to pay extra for fake offroad chops. Oh well, I don’t think that segment gets a ton of love anyway, the 2 row mid-size crossover segment that is.

It’s still a car chassis without a proper transfer case and it doesn’t have a lot of ground clearance.  They just put a flannel shirt and a mustache on it.

The new The Trailsport is sort of interesting. They didn’t really do anything to update its clearance, breakover, approach or departure angles. They just armored the shit out of the bottom so it won’t leak its guts out when you take it somewhere it probably shouldn’t be.

Well to be fair

Towing is 5000lbs. I think Honda under-rates the towing, though, as their platform tows 4500lbs much more comfortably than, say, a Tacoma tows 4500lbs, and the Taco is rated for 6800lbs.

Seems priced pretty fairly for the market its in.  I’ll need to know the tow specs, hoping this is in the 5k lbs range with the tow package.  I would assume that includes a trans cooler along with the receiver and connector.  In a segment where everything is I4 turbo I’m glad Honda is sticking with a NA V6.

Looks like a good competitor to the severely overpriced 4 Runner.
