If you’re headed to Asheville, the two you pretty much have to try are 12 Bones by the river and Buxton House on the south side of downtown.

I moved to eastern NC 4 years ago from Pennsylvania. Eastern North Carolina bbq is a different style of bbq. Whole hog, pulled pork, with an apple cider vinegar based bbq sauce (none of that “brown stuff”). I was skeptical at first but it is insanely good when done correctly.

I’d need more information about route and destinations. If I say something in Greenville SC and you’re going to Myrtle Beach that’s a 4 hour travel distance.

Don’t go to Maurice’s, I tried them in Columbia SC and it wasn’t worth getting.

Duke’s in Orangeburg, SC. It’s a few miles off I26 headed towards Charleston. There is also Hite’s in Leesville, SC, which is good if you want to try SC style mustard BBQ, and though it’s not as popular, for the same reason I would recommend Price’s in Gilbet, which I prefer.
