you’re mostly right but your description of the physics is wrong. rubber friction doesn’t follow with the coulomb friction law that’s taught in high school and freshman physics classes. it’s contact pressure dependent and decreases with increasing pressure. So if you pull inflation pressure out of the tire, the

This is a thing even in summer. Which was very annoying when tire pressure monitor first came out. On cars with a display they would complain if 1 tire was 1 psi. But guy you just drove your car around and generated different loads into the tire.

The sandbags aren't for more weight, it's for better weight distribution. Some RWD cars and trucks have very little weight on the rears when unloaded, and putting more weight over the rears helps correct that more than it hurts your overall stopping distance by increasing total weight.

Yeah, seems like this test is a little bit one dimensional. Lowering pressure is all well and good, but the primary purpose of tire pressure is to support the vehicle, and if it is too low there is too much strain put into the tire via flex which can lead to failure.

Except for the entire smaller turbo engine, increased weight and literally everything about the car...

Low tire pressure is how you get to be that guy with a blown tire on the side of the highway in the middle of winter.

I agree about the CVT. The transmission and diffs makes the sti worth the upgrade (unless you want to swap it in your wrx).

On ice, larger contact patch is generally not what you want. Larger contact patch leads to reduced lbs/square inch, which is key to maintaining static friction.

If your BMW is off by 4 PSI, I’m pretty sure it just self-destructs. I mean, look what happened to that M4 guy whose tires were only 1.5 PSI off...

What I want out of an STI is Brembos, Driver Controlled Center Differential, and at least a rear TORSEN diff. Now if they could add to that adaptive damping, that would be great as well, but I feel it should just undercut the Golf R and that might be asking for too much in that price point.

As a former STI owner, I don’t really care about the power. The aftermarket will handle that.

as an owner of a 2018 wrx... yeah, the stock exhaust is comically quiet.

Looks like the STI died with the EJ. I’m glad I held onto my car, I’ve heard rumors that the current gen WRX may be the last.

In terms of raw depreciation in dollars, a new Mirage for $12k has to have the lowest potential depreciation of any car on the market. Even with 100k on the clock 10 years from now, there will be a floor for a running car of at least a few grand. You basically can’t ever lose more than $10k by owning one of these.

Profit is completely irrelevant to Tesla. As are any other metrics like sales, meeting it’s state goals, etc. It’s stock price is proof of that.

While I will 100% listen to this, if more quality engine noises are your jam then I cannot recommend 19Bozzy92 on Youtube enough. He’s been posting videos of just pure sound for more than a decade. Racecars, streetcars, you name it. Here is but one example:

Police and Fire departments ordered them to flee their cars.

EREVs also make towing a reality for an EV. Trains do it pretty well already.

Alright, well at least that’s art. I mean, I don’t like it and it doesn’t look livable (like most “architecture” set-piece homes), but it’s architecture and some real effort and skill went into it. It mirrors the Cybertruck’s lines and then ups its game masterfully — artistically speaking, it does what the Cybertruck
